Pair of 9ct Gold Oval Chain-Link Cufflinks by Steele & Dolphin, Birmingham 1984, in the Edwardian Taste, Cased

£300.00
A handsome pair of gentleman's cufflinks of classic chain-link, double-sided form, hallmarked 9-carat gold and made in Birmingham in 1984 by the silversmiths Steele & Dolphin, executed in the enduring Edwardian taste of the early twentieth century.

Each cufflink is composed of two flat oval faces joined by a short curb-link chain, one face decorated with finely machine-engraved engine-turning (guilloché) of barleycorn texture flanked and divided by polished pinstripes, the opposing face plain and suitable for engraving with monogram or initials, both within a raised oval border. The reverses bear full British hallmarks for 9-carat gold (.375): the maker's punch "S&D" for Steele & Dolphin, the "375" fineness mark, the anchor symbol of the Birmingham Assay Office, and the date letter "K" for 1984.

Dimensions: each oval face measures 1.75 cm in length and 1.1 cm in width; total weight of the pair 3.77 g.

The pair is presented in a fitted dark blue leatherette cufflink case with gilt scroll-tooled borders and a royal blue velvet interior, secured by a gilt-metal clasp. Condition is very good vintage, the gold retaining warm colour with light surface marks consistent with wear, the engine-turning crisp throughout and the chain links sound; the case shows minor age-wear to the exterior but is sturdy and presentable. A neat and traditional pair of British 9ct gold cufflinks of timeless design, well suited for daily wear or as a personalised gift once monogrammed. Please carefully regard all photos as they make an integral part of the listing, and reach out if there are any questions.
