A lively French hard-paste porcelain figure by the Niderviller manufactory, c.1815, depicting two boys in playful combat. Animated modelling and bright enamels sit on a naturalistic rocky base in greens, yellows and browns, typical of early 19th-century French taste. Faces are individually painted with warm flesh tones, capturing humour and movement.
Marks: unmarked to factory; underside with incised No. 44, a numbering practice documented for Niderviller figures of the period. The inner well of the base is fully glazed with a dry footring, consistent with French workshop construction.
Niderviller, founded in 1735 in Lorraine and developed under de Beyerlé and de Custine, was a major French manufactory known for figural groups, biscuit sculpture and finely painted tablewares. By the early 1800s it produced confident hard-paste wares that competed with leading Paris and northeastern French factories.
