Original Meissen porcelain jug, mid-19th century. The jug has a ribbed, bulbous body with a flared rim and a wide, flat shoulder. Around the neck is a relief band with geometric cross-hatch and meander ornament. The handle is shaped as a curved branch and decorated with applied gold petals. The spout is finished with gold stylized leaves. The decoration features two pairs of naturalistically painted birds on leafy branches, one pair on each side of the jug, surrounded by finely detailed insects including beetles, butterflies, and bees. This motif continues the famous Meissen "Naturalistic Birds and Insects" series, first created after the 1740s and occasionally produced in small numbers for collectors. Marked to the base with the underglaze blue crossed swords. Items from this celebrated Meissen series are highly sought after by collectors and are rarely found in such perfect condition.
