This refined Meiji period Satsuma bowl is signed by the Nikko workshop beneath the underglaze blue Shimazu crest. The ivory crackled body carries trailing chrysanthemum sprays in soft enamels and fine gold, while the interior features a large flowering shrub rising from a rocky mound. A bold black-and-gold brocade border frames the rim and gives the bowl a crisp graphic character ideal for display.

Nikko is a recorded Satsuma maker; an identical mark appears on a tea service sold at Bonhams ("Fine Japanese Art", London, 2014), confirming the workshop's standing among collectors.
