An English Staffordshire jug dating to the late 18th century, made in a sharply faceted hexagonal form typical of Georgian domestic ceramics. The surface is finished with a thin, well-integrated glaze, giving the piece a refined but lively appearance.

The decoration consists of a fully hand-painted oriental genre scene, with figures in flowing trousers and turbans set within an imagined Eastern landscape. This is accompanied by scattered floral sprays in the so-called "Indische Blumen" palette. Such subjects reflect the strong late Georgian fascination with distant cultures and were popular before transfer printing became dominant.

The base bears an incised technological mark, a routine feature of English ceramic production of the period.

Pieces of this type are increasingly difficult to find, combining early faceted form and entirely hand-painted decoration.

Dimensions: height 21.5 cm; width 21 cm; depth 16 cm.
Weight: 656 g.

Condition: a small chip to the spout, a chip to the footrim, and a fine hairline crack at the base of the handle. In all other respects, in very good antique condition, with the painted decoration particularly well preserved.
