A magnificent large pair of antique German porcelain figures by C. G. Schierholz, Plaue, dating to c. 1865. Modelled as a male and female harvester, each stands barefoot beside a tree stump on a naturalistic base. The pastel blue, mauve and straw-toned palette with gilt highlights creates a soft, elegant display suited to both traditional and contemporary interiors.
The male figure wears striped trousers and an open shirt, holding the original sickle handle (blade now missing). His partner carries a wheat sheaf and matching hat, with her sickle handle also intact. Delicate detailing to the hands, faces and clothing reflects the exceptional craftsmanship of mid-19th century Plaue porcelain. At around 50 cm tall, these are true statement pieces with exceptional decorative impact.
Historical Background
Founded in 1817, the Plaue manufactory flourished under Carl Gustav Schierholz from 1850, gaining international recognition for its decorative figures, refined modelling and innovative glazing. Harvesters and rural themes were among its most admired subjects, examples of which can be found in the Porzellanmuseum Plaue and important private collections.

• Female: 49.5 cm / 19.5″ tall
• Both 19 × 17 cm across the bases
Heavy and well-balanced pieces
Condition
Excellent for age and size. The male has a superficial firing line to the back (non-structural; UV-verified). Sickle blades missing to both (handles intact). Old drilled holes to the stumps from previous lamp use. Glaze and enamels remain bright and clean. Ready to display.
