Herend Tea Caddy/Ginger Jar, Handpainted, Siang Rouge Red Dynasty, 20th Century

£1,200.00
A superb handpainted tea caddy or ginger jar, Herend, Hungary, "Siang Rouge" (Red Dynasty), 20th century. The body and lid are richly decorated in a deep rust-red ground with alternating white panels, each adorned with intricate stylized floral and foliate scrolls, all highlighted with fine gilding. The "Siang Rouge" (Red Dynasty) pattern was conceived as a homage to Japanese Imari and Chinese Qing dynasty porcelain of the 18th century. The rust-red ground with alternating floral panels and stylized foliage is a European interpretation of classic Far Eastern aesthetics, reimagined by the Herend manufactory for the luxury market. Herend has always openly acknowledged Eastern influences in its ornamentation — this is a distinctive feature of the manufactory's signature "European Orientalism" style.
Marked to the base with the blue Herend shield, inscribed "HANDPAINTED" and factory numerals. Items decorated in this pattern are especially sought after by collectors and rarely appear on the market, particularly in such pristine condition.
