A rare French provincial handmade terracotta confit jar from southern France, dating to circa 1870-1890. The vessel is hand-formed from dense iron-rich earthenware clay with a warm cream-ochre body visible at the small chip to the footrim, characteristic of Cévennes utilitarian pottery. Its rounded form with short neck and twin loop handles reflects traditional household jars used for preserving meats in fat, storing olives in brine, oil, and everyday provisions. The surface is finished in a deep bottle-green lead glaze with natural pooling and tonal variation, creating a richly textured decorative finish prized by collectors of French rustic ceramics.

Condition: tiny chip to the footrim; otherwise excellent antique condition.
