Fine Pair Meiji Kyoto Satsuma Vases, Heavy Gilt Moriage

£1,750.00
Fine matched pair of Kyoto Satsuma vases from Japan's Meiji era, c.1890-1915. Rich gold and colourful enamels on a deep dark ground; the decoration is slightly raised, catching the light and giving a refined texture. The four front panels show the goddess of mercy (Kannon) with saintly followers; the other panels show quiet temple landscapes — a classic combination in Kyoto Satsuma. True pairs in very good condition with bright gilding are now hard to source and make strong statement pieces for collectors and interior designers alike.
Satsuma ware with the typical fine crackle; raised details; red "Kyō" (Kyoto) workshop mark to both bases. Very good antique condition; minor rubbing only; no structural damage observed.
