A finely potted Moorcroft vase from the early Macintyre period, made for Liberty & Co. and dating to circa 1905. This piece belongs to the Flamminian range, an early art pottery line characterised by rich monochrome glazes and restrained relief decoration.
The vase is covered in a deep red glaze with natural tonal variation from oxblood to darker tones where the glaze gathers. The shoulder is decorated with three raised foliate roundels, each shaped as a heart-like leaf motif and integrated beneath the glaze, giving the piece a distinctly sculptural presence.
Flamminian wares were registered in 1905 and produced largely for Liberty, reflecting Moorcroft's early exploration of form and glaze rather than painted ornament.
William Moorcroft, head of the Macintyre art pottery studio by 1898, established his reputation through work retailed by Liberty, Harrods and Tiffany & Co., and later gained international recognition and a Royal Warrant.
The base bears a faint "Made for Liberty" mark beneath the glaze, together with an incised model number and Moorcroft's signature.
