A small Derby porcelain figure of a recumbent stag, dating to the Patch period, circa 1759-1769. Finely modelled in soft-paste porcelain, the animal is shown resting before a bocage, with a compact scale characteristic of early Derby production.
The figure corresponds to the model "Stag and Doe at Lodge" (E99), with dimensions closely matching those recorded in Bradshaw, supporting the identification. The modelling retains the slightly naïve yet expressive quality of early Derby, with softly applied enamels and a dense bocage.
The underside shows a rough finish with a vent hole and visible patch marks, consistent with early manufacturing methods of the period. The spotted coat is painted in iron-red tones with white reserves, and the antlers in naturalistic brown.
