Doulton Burslem, Staffordshire, c.1891. Rare well-paired set of beaker-form porcelain vases raised on an architectural base with three "dolphins". Ivory ground; hand-painted soft floral bouquets to all sides; gilt inner rims and gilt ornament to the stepped triangular bases. Both bases carry the crowned Doulton Burslem mark with circular monogram, a stamp associated with the desirable pre-Royal Burslem period following Henry Doulton's appointment as Potter to His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales. Small differences in size and weight between the two vases are typical of hand production—each piece was individually formed and hand-painted, not assembly-line work. Collectable early Doulton Burslem: elegant beaker shape, three-dolphin support, fine bouquets and rich gilding in excellent preservation.
