The figure is in beautiful original condition. Neptune was the god of freshwater and the sea in Roman religion. He is the counterpart of the Greek god Poseidon.                                                                                                                                             The Neptune figure was first brought out by Derby in about 1752, and then in various versions but never very different. This version has the number 299 and was made around 1830. This figure is described on page 348 in Peter Bradshaw's \"Derby Porcelain Figures 1750-1848\"                                                         \u003cbr\u003e\n    Porcelain figure of Neptune with a Dolphin on a pile of shells, painted in enamels, and gilt. Neptune standing on rocky shell encrusted mounds. The bearded Neptune, crowned with an ochre and gilt crown, is standing naked except a large fluttering cape, yellow on the inside and dark blue with gold and white floral sprays on the outside; his left hand reached up to hold a trident, which has gone missing. The dolphin scales are green, and it has pale orange-red fins and tail, and a round black eye with a narrow orange-red circle and a wide yellow circle round each; water spouting out of his toothy mouth. Both Neptune and the dolphin are placed upon a white shell with gilt icicle rims. The circular high mound base has a wavy edge, and pierced sides decorated with applied seaweed, coral, and realistic shells of different shapes and sizes colored naturalistically.   \u003cbr\u003e\nHeight 21 cm,Width 11 cm,Depth 9,5 cm ,Weight 777 grams\u003cbr\u003e\nCondition:Professional restoration of the fin on the dolphin's tail and Neptune's left arm.Small chips on the seaweed leaves.Two small firing cracks on the base.If you look inside the figurine you can see one crack that is not visible from the outside.\u003cbr\u003e\nOtherwise excellent antique condition.\u003cbr\u003e\n    Please study the accompanying photographs carefully as they form an integral part of this description.
