An 18th-century Derby porcelain figure depicting Diana, the classical goddess of the hunt, accompanied by a greyhound. The figure is finely modelled in soft-paste porcelain and decorated with coloured enamels and gilding. She stands on a rococo base enriched with applied flowers and foliage.
Diana is shown holding a long bow while reaching towards the quiver of arrows at her back, the hound seated attentively at her side. This composition derives from classical representations of the Roman goddess of the chase and became a popular subject in early English porcelain figure production.
The model corresponds to the figure recorded by Peter Bradshaw in Derby Porcelain Figures 1750-1848 (pp. 77, 110) as model D27, first introduced during the Derby Pale period (1756-1759). The design continued in production during the subsequent Patch period as model E50, essentially a reissue of the earlier composition.
Comparable examples of this model are preserved in the Victoria and Albert Museum and the British Museum, where figures of Diana with a hunting dog are attributed to William Duesbury and dated to the mid-18th century.

Condition
Left leg professionally repaired below the knee. Left arm repaired at the point where it holds the bow; the bow also repaired. Minor chips to the bocage expected for the age. Otherwise excellent antique condition.
