English porcelain cabinet bowl produced by the Derby Porcelain Factory in the late Georgian period, circa 1795-1810. The bowl has a broad, low cabinet form and rests on a neat circular foot, intended for decorative display. The exterior is finished with a deep cobalt-blue ground and enriched with dense hand-applied gilding arranged in scrolling foliate cartouches.
The decoration includes two oval hand-painted scenes titled "Near Wirksworth, Derbyshire" and "Near Florence", reflecting the late-Georgian fashion for Grand Tour imagery popular among educated collectors of the period. The scenes are softly painted with an emphasis on atmosphere rather than strict topography.
The interior is finished in plain white porcelain, with a finely applied gilt geometric border to the rim. The underside bears a factory mark used by Derby in this period, and the scene titles are written in a contemporary calligraphic hand. Such titled Derby cabinet bowls are sought after for their rich colour, fine gilding, and strong historical associations.
