Meiji-period Satsuma of exceptional finesse, circa 1890. A many-figured palace-garden scene is painted in micro-fine enamels and generous gold on a warm ivory crackled glaze. Reverse with the famous Meizan (明山) mark, gold on black cartouche.
Dimensions: diameter approx. 21.3 cm ; height approx. 2.5 cm .
Weight: about 423 g.
Condition: excellent; UV test shows no restorations or over-painting; only minimal age wear at the rim.
Materials/technique: Satsuma stoneware, overglaze enamels, matte and burnished gilt.
