Antique Pair of Royal Worcester Figurines - Woodsman and Wife
A rare pair of Royal Worcester figurines depicting a hard-working woodsman and his wife, crafted in a blush ivory gilded colour palette. The woodsman is modelled standing by a tree stump, holding an axe and a log over his shoulder, while his wife holds a bowl. These figurines are rare Royal Worcester designs by James Hadley.
Historical Background
Dating to circa 1899-1902, these figurines bear body shape 1774 and registration number 242280. They feature printed green marks, including "shot enamel" and an impressed "Royal Worcester" mark on the woodsman. Green marks of this period were also used on Boer War soldier figurines (c. 1899-1902). The combination of these markings and the shot enamel decoration makes this a highly sought-after and rare complete pair.
James Hadley was one of the most influential modellers for Royal Worcester, known for his finely detailed figures that captured Victorian and Edwardian life. His works remain highly prized by collectors.

Condition
Very good antique condition. Small loss to the tip of the axe handle, which is hardly visible. The wife figurine is in great condition. Light wear to gilt commensurate with age.
