Beautiful antique porcelain figural lamp, depicting a young girl bearing flowers, beside her young companion, a woodcutter. Notice how the details of the clothes, faces, berries and roses at their feet have been carefully developed.
Hallmarked to Sitzendorf porcelain. Sitzendorfer Porzellanmanufaktur was established by Wilhelm Liebmann in 1850. Nestled in the beautiful valley of the upper Schwarza in the Thuringian Forest, Sitzendorf has gained special significance for Thuringian porcelain. Georg Heinrich Macheleid invented porcelain in this place, independently of others who did the same. In 1760, he submitted a request to Johann-Friedrich von Schwarzburg, Rudolstadt, with the request to open a porcelain manufactory here in Sitzendorf.
Therefore, Sitzendorf is the cradle of Thuringian porcelain. Most of the manufactory was demolished in 1858 in a blast, but reopened later and continued to run until the second world war. Dated to c. 1880.
Fantastic work of early Sitzendorf, converted into a lamp
A small chip of the end of the axe blade, but this can only be seen if you turn the figure and take a close look.
Excellent antique condition. There is a minor loss on the flowers in the girl's left hand, as well as some loss to gilding on the base.
