Antique Pair of Satsuma Wisteria Vases, Signed Tagawa, c. 1900–1920

£850.00
An exquisite pair of antique Kyoto Satsuma vases signed by the artist Tagawa (田川), dating from around 1900-1915. Each vase displays refined Meiji-Taishō artistry with intricate hand-painted wisteria blossoms cascading down the ivory crackled surface.

The shoulder is decorated with a brocade-style frieze of lappets and scalework motifs in soft blue, green, and iron-red enamels, all finely edged in gold. Thousands of raised gilt dots highlight each petal and vine, producing a shimmering, almost textile-like texture.

Both vases are signed by Tagawa, a known Kyoto decorator of the early 20th century, and remain perfectly matched in size, palette, and composition. They are superb examples of the delicacy and restraint associated with Kyoto's finest Satsuma workshops.
