Charming pair of antique German porcelain sweetmeat figures, attributed to Volkstedt, Thuringia, circa 1880. Each figure depicts a young girl standing over an openwork basket, holding a bird. Bases are molded in rococo style. The underglaze crossed-swords mark is consistent with Thuringian porcelain houses of the 19th century, imitating Meissen-style marks to appeal to collectors of that tradition.
Condition: Excellent antique condition. One small firing crack near the base, a typical result of kiln tension during production. No chips, or repairs. All applied flowers and birds are intact. One figure bears a fine gold streak on the hand from original decoration.
