Beautiful and rare pair of antique Minton figural compotes, made in 1873. Each sweetmeat dish is formed as a large scallop shell supported by a finely modelled cherub riding a stylised dolphin. The soft sage green and white glaze highlights the sculptural details, while the shell-moulded oval bases are ringed with naturalistic shells, showcasing Minton's exceptional craftsmanship and innovation in Victorian ceramic design.
Each piece is impressed with the factory mark, pattern number 1003, and clear date code for 1873. Minton was one of the most important 19th-century Staffordshire manufacturers, known for producing decorative porcelain and bone china for prestigious clients, including the White House and international exhibitions.
Perfect as centrepieces, for display on a mantel or credenza, or as unique accents in a curated antique interior. They are functional as well as decorative, ideal for presenting sweets, fruit, or potpourri.
