A finely decorated antique Japanese miniature vase in Satsuma style, attributed to circa 1890 and created as an elegant cabinet piece for close viewing.
The decoration is organised in framed panels, featuring a figural scene of women and children in traditional dress, set against a calm landscape, with additional areas of floral ornament and foliage that wrap around the body. The composition reads clearly from every angle, making it a strong display object despite its small scale.
The surface is exceptionally rich in gilding. In addition to bold gilt borders, the ground is enhanced with fine stippled gilt "gold dust" effects, while precise line gilding picks out textiles, patterns, and architectural elements. The pale crackle-glazed base adds depth and warmth beneath the enamels.
Marks/signature: the base shows a two-character mark 珠山, transliterated as "Shuzan". Attributed date: circa 1890.
