Decorated in polychrome overglaze enamels with gilding, demonstrating the technical mastery and artistic refinement associated with quality Kutani export porcelain of the period. The deep cobalt-blue kimono is adorned with cherry blossoms and the traditional asanoha (hemp-leaf) pattern; white cartouches contain miniature landscape scenes. Carefully rendered facial features, a refined shimada hairstyle and a poised, dynamic stance are characteristic of high-grade Japanese export work.                                                                                        The underside is unmarked, typical for early exports.
