A unique set of four ancient Roman miniature glass unguentaria, crafted using the core-formed technique and decorated with signature blue and white "trail" bands. Dating from the Hellenistic-Roman period, 2nd century BC to 3rd century AD. Each bottle measures 5.5-6.1 cm tall. Overall very good condition for age; one with a crack at the neck (see photos), unrestored.
Presented in a rare early 20th-century industrial collector's box from "The Cleveland Twist Drill Co., Cleveland, Ohio, U.S.A." — a prominent American maker of high-speed drill bits, founded 1876, merged into Acme-Cleveland in 1968. This unusual provenance adds an extra layer of historical value, connecting the artefacts to an Anglo-American collector or engineer.
Provenance: English gentleman's collection, early 20th century, as confirmed by the box.
